Japan gets the Pentax K-x in “robotic colors” (limited edition)

The Pentax K-x was announced last month, and it seems to be a very decent entry-level camera. It has been reported the device will be available in a few different colors in Japan, while the US only gets black, white, and red models. And today Pentax said in Tokyo that they are ready to roll out a very special version of the K-x, which is a particularly colorful model inspired by the so-called Kore Ja Nai robo toy [Japanese].

The robot was introduced in Japan in 2001 and is available in different variations (the one you see in the pic above is a cell phone strap). Spec-wise, the K-x isn’t any different from the conventional models so the design is the main selling point.

Pentax plans to sell the robo K-x exclusively in its own online store [Japanese] (price: US$880), and the model is restricted to just 100 units. Pre-orders begin in early November. People living outside Japan might want to contact the Japan Trend Shop or Geek Stuff 4 U and ask if they can help with the purchase.

This camera is really colourful, which is inspired by a Japanese toy called Kore Ja Nair robo toy, and is having the same functions of a normal camera that can be easily manipulated.

The design of the camera is unique, but I think it is a bit bizarre for me to take photos on streets. People walking pass by may put much focus on me and think that I’m childish, and I hate this kind of feeling.

However, it’s inevitable for the devotees of Kore Ja Nair robo toy to buy the camera due to the fact that it is a limited edition, just 100 units can be bought in the market. Moreover, some collectors may take this opportunity to buy one at a lower price and resale it with a higher price, so as to make a profit from it.

i think this camera is just for people to invest or for collection. although the quality of this brand is quite a good one and its suitable for entry-level users, but the quantity was restricted to a hundred units, making it a bit higher in price than the other same level product in the market. i appreciate the colour design and the function for our amateur, but if the price will be US$880 or higher, i dont think it will be nice choice for our normal people.

Bryan, I have the same worry as you do. It is a bit weird to carry such a DSLR to shoot pictures. As Eric suggested, it can be a good collectors' item if you pocket is deep enough.

The appearance is very attractive.
I like those colours. They match to give a fresh image. I like it very much.
If I have money, I will buy one.
If I can use this camera, I would be special. It is because this type of cameras is black in normal.
I hope this design of Pentax can raise the trend of colourful cameras.
